St Therese’s Community School is located in the historic town of Wilcannia, not far from the banks of the once mighty Darling River.
The school caters for boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 2, with enrolments for Year 3 now being taken for 2017 as the school seeks to grow.
St Therese’s is blessed with a caring and dedicated staff of indigenous and non- indigenous educators, continuing the great work of the numerous Sisters who have looked after the children of the community for 50 years. The staff work together as a team to make sure the needs of every student are catered for through multi-faceted learning experiences.
At St Therese’s, we are ‘Safe, Friendly, Learners’ and we focus on creating a positive environment where students feel comfortable to discover, play and learn.
St Therese’s Community School has many exciting programs with parents supported in helping children attend school through our daily bus run and breakfast program. The children also enjoy a prepared nutritious lunch and healthy fruit break.
Other programs include Weekly Speech Therapy, Prayer and Birthday Assemblies, Books in Homes, Weekly Nutrition Lessons with a visiting dietician, Art Competitions, Community Visits and Sporting Events along with many more. These programs provide opportunities for families, the wider community and other organisations and services to become a part of our special school community.
Developing strong Literacy and Numeracy skills remains our focus along with developing an understanding of the great history, culture and language of the local people through our Paakantji Cultural Program.
Our Religious Education Program, with The Gospel messages at the core of our teaching and learning, is central to who we are and is evident in the quality of our relationships and how we respectfully interact with each other. Fr Nick from Broken Hill visits each month to say mass or lead prayer celebrations, as well as visiting classrooms to play his accordion!
We believe in the transformative capabilities of ICT integration in the curriculum. Students at St Therese’s Community School are engaged in learning through the use of ICT in the classroom and the school is well resourced in this area with iPads, laptops, Desktop Computers, Interactive Whiteboards and appropriate software to enhance and deepen the learning experience.
St Therese's is a wonderfully supportive place for children to grow and learn! Please feel free to call or visit to find out for yourself.
